Ducati have been spotted testing the new British-built aluminium frame that they hope will transform Valentino Rossi's woeful MotoGP performance this season.

The frame, built by Buckingham-based FTR, is being tested in Mugello this week.

Bologna factory sources have confirmed to MCN in Misano last weekend that FTR had been collaborating with Ducati for several weeks on the new projects, with Rossi and teammate Nicky Hayden urging engineers to undergo a radical re-design of its Desmosedici project.

Rossi and Hayden have complained all season about a chronic understeer issue and lack of front-end feel with the current carbon-fibre concept. The pair have scored only one podium each in 2011 and Rossi has given up trying to maintain his record of winning at least one GP a year since his world championship debut in 1996.

FTR management refused to comment on a link with Ducati. Drawings have been spotted clearly showing the rear of a twin beam aluminium structure. The bike is believed to have already been built as a 1000, with rules preventing further testing on the current 800cc bikes.

Rossi confirmed he was testing the GP12 1000cc bike in Mugello this week, but he refused to divulge specific details. The 32-year-old, who finished seventh at Misano, said: "We have some new things to try to improve the front grip and the turning, but this is work for 2012."

VALENTINO ROSSI CONCLUDES SIXTH GP12 TEST DAY, AT MUGELLO

For the final day of a three-day test at Mugello, Valentino Rossi joined the Ducati Test Team to work on developing the 2012 race bike. In doing so, he utilized the sixth of eight days during which factory riders may participate in such outings. The Italian was kept busy trying an updated electronics package and chassis, turning a total of 82 laps in conditions that were sunny but not overly hot. Rossi had a fall on the exit of the Scarperia-Palagio section during the third lap of his first outing in the morning, but it didn’t affect the team’s work, which continued until 6:30 p.m. Filippo Preziosi and Vittoriano Guareschi were in the garage to follow the test, and official test rider Franco Battaini, who had ridden the two previous days, was with Rossi on the track. “It was an interesting day, although it was also quite long, because we rode until 6:30,” Rossi said after the test. “Developing a bike requires a lot of focus and effort, but it’s also very exciting and fulfilling to be part of a group of people pushing as hard as it can in the same direction. Today we confirmed various aspects of the GP12’s electronics and chassis, collecting a lot of useful information for Filippo and the guys in the factory. I think that the work is well underway as we prepare for our next steps.”

Estas son creo, las tres unicas fotos que han trascendido de manera oficial del test en mugello.

O alucino yo, o son tres motos distintas...

A parte de la camara on board en el colin, fijaros bajo la silleta.

Parec que al final, me tengo que tragar mis palabras y efectivamente el chasis es doble viga, por cierto, las vigas traseras del chasis son enoooormes, o lo parecen.

Comentan que usado las dos mil, la gp12 y la Ftr, y que se ha caido con la gp11, saludos

Diría que la de enmedio es la gp11.1 actual, y las otras dos unidades son de la nueva.

1.48.5 fue su mejor tiempo con la FTR-Ducati.
